Signs of laptop heating

  • Fan making a loud and scary noise

If the fan of the laptop is making a weird and loud noise, then it is a sign your laptop is overheating, and the fan is performing out of its limit to cool the system down. In this case, both the system and the fans are getting heated up!

  • Performance issues

If your laptop is failing to perform simple tasks like open a new window, or open basic applications, then it is a sign that the motherboard is not being able to perform properly due to overheating.

  • Blue screen

Also known as the screen of death, it is a sign that your laptop is getting overheated.

  • Error messages

If your screen displays sudden error messages, then you can be assured that it is because of some virus problem or due to overheating of the system.

  • Lines on the screen

If you notice there are sudden lines appearing on the screen, then it could be a sign that the video card of the system is getting overheated.

  • Shutting down abruptly

This is one of the most common signs of a laptop getting overheated. If you see that your system is shutting down on its own every now and then, there could be heating issues with the motherboard or the hard drive.

  • Portions are heating up

If certain portions like the back of the laptop, the place of the fan, ram, hard disk are getting heated more than the rest of the system, then it’s advisable to take it to the service center to get it checked.

Ways to cool down your laptop

  • Clean the dust

The main problem of heating of a laptop is due to the dust. Try to remove the dust from your laptop with the help of a blower. More importantly, try to clean the dust from the fans. Fans are the only weapon which can keep your laptop clean. So, always make sure that your laptop fan is free from any dust.

  • Place on a flat and hard surface

Laptop fans are generally located at the bottom of the system. So, if you will place the laptop on a soft surface like your bed or couch, then there will be no space for the heat to escape. Also, place it on a hard and flat surface so that the heat can escape.

  • Use a stand

Laptop stands are designed to provide the maximum ventilation to the laptop system. Placing your laptop on one of these tables will be the best solution to keep your laptop cool.

  • Adjust settings

Check if your laptop has the capability to run high graphics games or videos. Also, check if more than 1 antivirus is running or not. There are also possibilities that if there are various browsers installed in the system, then it might lead to overclocking of the system.

  • Format the system

If the heating issue still persists, then format your system once. Once formatting is done, a lot of trash files are deleted, and the CPU and memory become free again. This might lead to less heating issues.

  • Use a fan near the system

If you see that your laptop is overheating for then trying placing it near a fan. This will help to maintain the temperature around the laptop.

  • REST

If you are laptop is getting overheated on a frequent basis, then get into the habit of giving it some rest. Resting your laptop helps to fight the overheating issue.

  • Take it to a technician

If the heating problem still persists, take it to a technician. The heating might be caused by a damaged component which requires replacements. These faults can be spotted only by a technician.
