IT issues online

IT, which stands for Information Technology has become the backbone of almost all sectors, big or small in today’s time. With leading innovation and technical empowerment, not only is the IT industry developing at a fast pace, but it is also pulling along other industries towards advancement.

Information Technology plays a pivotal role in most sectors, including business, education, finance, health care, security, Media, Communication, transport, etc. IT has enabled globalization, as it has bought the world closer by the implementation of the ultra-fast interdependent systems.

With the help of information technology, now almost all information is available to us. Now we can share ideas and information without being obstructed by language barriers and geographical boundaries.

IT typically deals with electronic computers and computer software, in order to store, process, transmit, convert, protect and retrieve information. The different sub-branches of IT are, namely Database Management, Networking, Information, Security, Cloud Computing, Business Intelligence, etc.

Despite providing such major advantageous contribution, IT has not been spared from short-comings. Especially with the large scale investment of time and resources to develop a competent IT system networks, and the prominent involvement of IT in almost all facets of everyday life and activity, the scrutiny has been on the rise as well. There are several IT ailments that have been identified to affect society and other sectors.

Here is a list of the ongoing IT issues that most people are sick of:

  • Security Concerns

Probably the biggest issue of IT currently is the concerns regarding the efficiency of the security set-up. Yes, surely IT has enabled world-wide information accessibility and communication facilities, but this has also increased the threat levels of hacking and interception.

Most of the information today is saved in digital databases or online clouds, that is definitely secured with passwords and hierarchal access, however, no one knows how foolproof the guarding system.

Over a few years, many cases of illegal hacking activities have surfaced, raising significant concern over the competence of the current IT methodology to provide information security.

The largely interwoven IT systems have enabled the use of techniques like tracking, tapping, hacking, torrenting, and other illegal cyberspace activities. The colossal dependency of businesses and other sectors on IT for handling data has somewhat fractured the adeptness of IT security logic.

The mammoth usage of social media sites, where people are constantly uploading pictures and personal information has got them questioning regarding the safety levels of such platforms.

  • Invasion of Privacy

Another similar yet much more alarming IT issues is the invasion of a person’s privacy. It is not an unknown fact anymore that many online sites can also access the personal data stored in your phones or computers.

Ironic that the people never go through the terms and conditions prior to installing or using an app or software, as they are unaware of such possibilities. Privacy has become vulnerable in the vast and dense cyberspace.

Cases of people being recorded through their phone cameras itself, or certain apps gaining access to the private conversations of people via text, and photo galleries have come to attention. This is one big fallacy of IT today.

  • Diabolical employment scenario

It is extremely dichotomic that though the IT industry has provided a new range of employment opportunities, it has also, to some extent, instigated unemployment. An explanation of that, IT has replaced humans in many sectors.

For example, since all the data is handled by superfast systems, many smaller industries do not need to employ a book-keeper to manage records. Automated caller customer service systems, online registrars, cyber-assistants, etc. have all been a cause for unemployment.

Understand that IT requires a certain level of professional education that cannot be afforded by many. It has snatched away the employment opportunities for many small and lower sectors. In a simple mathematic ratio, by providing five employments, it has unemployed eight people.

  • Dependency overload

People and other sectors are increasingly dependent on the IT industry. People are so used to save most of their information on various IT provided platforms, businesses are done online nowadays,  most communications occur online, and almost everything real has a cyberspace counterpart, that it is slightly frightening. What if the IT system has an unresolvable glitch? Or the fact that IT literally runs on electricity, what if there is a massive power outage? What if the national system database has been hacked by the bad guys?

These are cases were the entire functioning of the respective subjects will come to a stand-still. Simpler  IT issues like your phone not working or the printer not functioning or the wi-fi not connecting can itself make you unable to do any activity, then just understand the scale of the impact if the IT industry were to have a major break down.

  • Dominant Culture

It is an unignorable fact that social media, which is the favorite offspring of Information Technology, has impacted our lives more than we can fathom. The kids today spend most of their time scrolling through social media, that their behavior and thought process have also been influenced by what they see online.

Everybody has a vast extent of access to online information and facilities these days, which ideally promotes globalization, but has also created a new cyber world. Even the IT industry employment scene has established a new trend of work style.

The most disturbing fact, however, is that the people are so involved in the online multi-verse that real inter-personal bond is lost. Families sit at dining tables, each member busy in their phones, friends hanging out together spend more time posting online than actually talking with each other, children prefer staying in and playing online games. IT has in some way, induced a very redundant and dormant real-time lifestyle, as people are only active in the alternate cyber-verse.

Conclusion

It can be confidently said that the world has noticed a subtle revolution post the establishment and success of the IT industry. Though it has had some extra-ordinary progressive innovations, many aspects of it do raise some amount of concern.
